Residential Camp Information 2008

 

WELCOME TO THE UAB SOCCER CAMP We are happy to have you with us and are looking forward to a great week of soccer. Please make note of the following important information.

CHECK-IN From 1:00 - 2:30 P.M. on Sunday at Blazer Residence Hall on the UAB Campus, 16th Street South & 9th Ave South. If you know prior to Sunday that you will be arriving late for registration please call (205) 870-0194 to let us know. The first camp meeting will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday. Dinner will be the first meal served.

CHECKOUT Thursday noon after the closing ceremony. Breakfast will be the last meal served on Thursday.

LOCATION Blazer Hall, 920 16th Street South, Birmingham AL 35205

DIRECTIONS FROM 65 NORTHBOUND - take the University Blvd. exit, turn right onto 16th Street. Blazer Hall is on your right between 9th and 10th Avenue South. FROM 65 SOUTHBOUND - take the 4th Ave South exit, turn right onto 13th Street South, go 4 blocks and turn left onto University Blvd (8th Ave), to 3 blocks and turn right onto 16th Street South. Blazer Hall is on your right between 9th and 10th Avenue South.

TRANSPORTATION There is a bus station in town as well as an airport. The camp will pick your son up from either location for no charge. We must know travel details one week in advance for this service. Taxi service is also available from either location. A camper may drive to camp, but car keys will be collected upon arrival. Please inform the camp if your son plans to drive.

ROOMMATES Residential campers will be housed in the brand new Blazer Hall on the UAB Campus. Campers may indicate choice of roommates. Campers will be housed in 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suites, with 2 beds in each bedroom. You may specify in your request, one roommate and up to two suitemates.

INSURANCE Parents must provide primary health insurance for their sons. The UAB Soccer Camp will carry only a supplemental accident and health policy.

HEALTH INFORMATION Campers should be in good physical condition and in good health to attend camp. Trainers will be at registration to discuss any health condition that may require attention during the week. Campers should break in new shoes before attending camp to avoid blisters and discomfort during the week.

CAMP STORE Food, drink and novelty items will be sold at the camp store. Pizza will also be available as an evening snack. The store will also cash traveler’s checks.

NIKE STORE A local soccer shop will have Nike products available for sale on Sunday at registration as well as during the week.

SPENDING MONEY Average money per camper is around $40. It will be the camper’s responsibility for handling their spending money and providing a safe place for it. We strongly recommend using TRAVELER'S CHECKS. Traveler’s checks may be cashed at the Camp Store. A camp bank will not be provided.

SWIMMING Campers will have some free time during the week to swim in the new recreation center pool.

ENROLLMENT CANCELLATION Those who cannot attend camp for medical or other reasons will be refunded their money except for a $100 handling fee, provided the camp is notified 72 hours prior to registration on Sunday.

WHAT TO BRING We suggest each camper bring these items to camp: towels, pillow, sheets (twin XL) and a light blanket or sleeping bag, (all rooms are air-conditioned), soccer cleates & flat athletic shoes, shin guards, rain jacket, swimsuit, pajamas, sunscreen, toiletries and enough shirts, shorts and socks for 3 training sessions a day.  Also bring a bag to carry shoes & ball to and from the fields and an alarm clock.   Campers will have access to laundry facilities. Each camper should bring a ball to camp. If you don't own one, you may purchase a Nike ball for $25 at camp.
